LIBER in Barcelona: Ukrainian Publishers at the National Stand
17 Ukrainian publishers presented their books at the international “LIBER” fair in Barcelona — Ukraine joined the event for the third time. The fair ran from September 29 to October 1 and focused on the professional audience of the Spanish and Latin American book markets.
The Ukrainian national stand at LIBER was organised by the Ukrainian Book Institute. This year's line-up included the publishing houses Folio, Old Lion Publishing House, Ranok, A-BA-BA-HA-LA-MA-HA and Vilnyi Viter.
The Bologna Fair: Children's Literature and Illustration
In April, Ukrainian publishers took part in the 63rd Bologna Children's Book Fair, held from April 13 to 16. The national stand featured 18 participants — publishing houses and a literary agency. The stand's design was created based on Oleksandr Shatokhin's illustrations for the wordless book “Yellow Butterfly”.
The Bologna fair specialises in children's and young adult literature, illustration and the international book market. According to the data of the Ukrainian Book Institute, the 2026 event brought together around 1,500 exhibitors from 90 countries and regions, with a programme of about 600 events.
The fair also recognised the Ukrainian book “In Half a Word. On Communicating and Understanding One Another” created by the art studio Agrafka — Romana Romanyshyn and Andriy Lesiv. The title received a Special Mention of the BolognaRagazzi Award in the nonfiction category.
Frankfurter Buchmesse: Ukraine's Autumn Participation
The 78th Frankfurter Buchmesse runs October 7–11, 2026. The national stand is organised by the Ukrainian Book Institute. It features 44 publishing houses presenting catalogues and new books, as well as holding meetings with international literary agents.
As part of its participation, Ukraine plans to showcase contemporary Ukrainian book publishing, hold meetings with authors and build professional contacts with international participants.
VOLIA: A Professional Programme for Publishers from Ukraine and Neighbouring Countries
As part of the Frankfurter Buchmesse, VOLIA will also take place — a professional training and networking programme for publishers, editors, professionals and literary agents from Ukraine and neighbouring countries.
It is organised by Frankfurter Buchmesse in cooperation with the Book Arsenal festival and Goethe-Institut Ukraine, with the support of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
Ukraine's Participation in International Book Fairs
International book fairs give Ukrainian publishers the opportunity to present their titles to foreign audiences. At professional meetings, literary agents also negotiate the translation of Ukrainian books, the sale of publishing rights abroad and the search for foreign partners.
According to the data of the Ukrainian Book Institute, in 2025 Ukraine took part in six international book fairs: in Bologna, London, Leipzig, Warsaw, Frankfurt and LIBER, which that year was held in Madrid.
