Dynamo Secures the 2024/25 U19 Ukrainian Football Championship Title Ahead of Schedule: How It Happened

Kyiv side becomes unreachable for Shakhtar U19 ahead of the championship's final round.

In a Round 29 match of the U19 Ukrainian Football Championship, held May 17 in Odesa, Dynamo Kyiv beat Chornomorets, securing the championship title for the 2024/25 season ahead of schedule. The 'white-and-blues' pulled 8 points clear of the 'miners,' meaning Shakhtar can no longer catch their main rival.

• From the opening minutes, Dynamo seized the initiative in possession. In the third minute, off a pass from midfielder Bohdan Redushko, midfielder Vladyslav Herych scored with a header. Later, in the 16th minute, midfielder Kyrylo Osypenko doubled the lead, scoring the championship's milestone goal in the U19 Ukrainian Championship.
• Team captain and midfielder Dmytro Krymchanyn set up the third goal in the 29th minute, and at the end of the first half, midfielder Danylo Ishchenko scored the fourth goal against the opposing team off a corner from Krymchanyn.
• In the 72nd minute of the match, Davyd Bilyi sent a fifth goal into Chornomorets's net off a pass from Matvii Ponomarenko. The Kyiv side's final goal in the away match, off a pass from fullback Denys Dykyi, was scored by forward Fedir Zadorozhnyi.
• The hosts still managed to score a goal in the final minute of regulation time: Chornomorets forward Illia Lebid found the net with a shot off the post. But the goal had no bearing on the match's outcome: the Kyiv side won, 6:1.

Last season, the Dynamo U19 youth squad also became champions, finishing with 73 points and edging out Shakhtar U19 by two points. The title race stayed close until the final round that time, but the Kyiv side held onto its lead.

In the 2024/25 season, Ihor Kostiuk's team has already earned seven more points (and, theoretically, could earn ten more) than in last year's championship — the final round of this year's tournament takes place May 23.

The next season of the U19 Ukrainian Championship begins in August.
