Two Medals, a Canoeing Start, and Decisive Basketball Matches: Team Ukraine's Day 4 at EYOF 2025

Team Ukraine's haul grew by one gold and one silver.

On the fourth day of the 2025 summer European Youth Olympic Festival, running July 20-26 in Skopje, Kumanovo, and Osijek, Ukrainian athletes won two more medals — both in judo this time. Overall, Team Ukraine is competing in 12 of the 15 sports.

Earlier, on the first competition day, Illia Lashch and Yuliia Isachenko won their debut silver in the 10m air pistol event. On the second day, Team Ukraine won two swimming medals: Kostiantyn Fediuchuk, in the 200m backstroke final, won silver, and Makar Yakhno brought Ukraine its first gold, in the 1500m freestyle.

The Ukrainians added three more medals to their haul on the third day: Vitalii Tarasiuk won Ukraine's first athletics medal — bronze. Among the judokas, Illia Nazarenko earned a medal of the same kind, while Khazar Heidarov brought Team Ukraine its second gold at EYOF 2025.

How Team Ukraine's Fourth Day at EYOF 2025 Went: July 24 Results

Cycling (Road)

  • In the girls' finals, Polina Petrovych finished 43rd, and Anastasiia Saturova finished 52nd. Among the boys, Dmytro Starovoitov finished 48th, and Maksym Kikot finished 78th.

Track and Field

  • Anastasiia Alembita didn't advance past qualifying in the 100m hurdles, finishing sixth. Andrii Pospolita, meanwhile, qualified for the pole vault final with the seventh-best result. In the 800m, Viktoriia Voitiuk finished sixth in her heat.

Judo

  • Judoka Sofiia Balaban lost at the start of the tournament to Belarusian NOC representative Sofiia Minko. Ilaria Tsurkan, meanwhile, moved confidently through the bracket: beating Julia Pinter in the second round, Germany's Grace Storm in the quarterfinal, and Nina Andrić in the semifinal. In the final bout, Ilaria proved stronger than Turkey's Rumeysa Kilickaya, winning by ippon and bringing Ukraine its third gold at EYOF 2025.
  • Mykhailo Solianyk started from the second round, confidently defeating Alexios Kikas, then overcame Bulgaria's Hristo Dimitrov in the quarterfinal and Georgia's Giorgi Mumladze in the semifinal, winning on 'golden score' after 10 minutes of extended play following regulation time. In the final, the Ukrainian judoka also went to the 'final point,' but lost to Lithuania's Tajus Babacenkas, earning Team Ukraine its fourth silver at EYOF 2025.

Swimming

  • In swimming, Ivan Riaduiev finished third in the 50m freestyle qualifying, and Andrii Kolesnyk finished fourth. In the 200m freestyle, Riaduiev and Makar Yakhno both won their heats. In the 50m semifinal, meanwhile, Ivan finished second, and in the final, fifth.
  • Olha Filimonova finished first in the 100m backstroke qualifying, and third in the semifinal. Kostiantyn Fediuchuk finished second in the 100m breaststroke qualifying and topped his heat in the semifinal. Iryna Prymachok, competing in the 200m individual medley, finished third in qualifying and second in the semifinal. Makar Yakhno also finished first in the 200m freestyle semifinal.
  • The finals featuring Ukrainian swimmers will take place on the fifth competition day.

Shooting

  • In air rifle qualifying, Artem Mozghovyi finished fifth among the boys, and Mariia Sheinina finished 17th among the girls. Neither advanced to the final.

Canoe Slalom

  • Arkhyp Krachko finished second in kayak qualifying, but finished sixth in the final after four penalty seconds. Anna Bielietieieva finished qualifying in 14th place. In the canoe single final, Anna finished seventh.

Table Tennis

  • In the round of 16 of the individual table tennis tournament, Diana Kolennikova beat Silvia Paris Dominguez (4:3), and in the round of 8, beat Polina Ternovykh, 4:2. In the mixed doubles, meanwhile, Vadym Soltys and Diana Kolennikova lost to Israel's representatives (2:3).

Taekwondo

  • Mykyta Bulavin and Artem Kuznietsov lost to their opponents from Israel and Bulgaria, respectively (both 0:2). Anastasiia Haivoronska first beat her Cypriot opponent, but lost her second bout to a North Macedonian representative (1:2).

Badminton

  • In mixed doubles badminton, the Ukrainian duo of Ivan Dzhus and Varvara Poperezhai lost to a Danish pair, 1:2. This concludes the Ukrainians' participation in this sport at EYOF 2025.

Gymnastics

  • Tymofii Kyrychenko and Anastasiia Lev finished 14th in mixed-pair gymnastics, scoring 24.033 points.

3x3 Basketball

  • In basketball, meanwhile, only Ukraine's 3x3 boys' team advanced to the playoffs. The boys confidently beat Croatia 19:14 in their final group-stage match, while the girls, needing a win by more than 18 points, ultimately lost, 12:20.

Over four days at EYOF 2025, Ukraine's tally stands at eight medals: three gold, three silver, and two bronze. Italy leads the medal table, while Ukraine holds a spot in the top 10.
