EYOF 2025: How the First Competition Day Went for the Ukrainians in Skopje
Team Ukraine won the festival's first medal.
Right on the first competition day of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF 2025), running July 20-26 in Skopje, Kumanovo, and Osijek, Ukrainian athletes won their debut medal. Silver in the 10m air pistol event was claimed by Illia Lashch and Yuliia Isachenko.

How the First Day of EYOF 2025 Went for Team Ukraine
- The first Ukrainian to compete was Mariia Sheinina, in the individual air rifle event. The athlete finished 14th with a score of 414.4. Artem Mozghovyi, in the same event, scored 410.9 points, rounding out the top 15.
- In swimming, Makar Yakhno fell one place short of a medal in the 400m freestyle, while Andrii Kolesnyk finished tenth in the 100m backstroke semifinal. Iryna Prymachuk, meanwhile, finished fifth in the 400m individual medley, and Kostiantyn Fediuchuk finished second in the 200m breaststroke semifinal. Sofiia Barabash made the top 6 of the 200m backstroke semifinal.
- Badminton player Varvara Poperezhai beat the Czech Republic's Stepanka Nydrlova (21:9, 21:15) and Denmark's Dhiya Mary Cherian (23:21, 21:14) at the start of the group stage. Ivan Dzhus, meanwhile, lost both his matches — to Bulgaria's Georgi Rupchov and Ireland's Luke Marks.
- Although Ukrainians didn't qualify for the 100m final during the morning session, Adam Bilokon managed it that evening in the 110m hurdles, and Ivan Donii finished second in his high jump qualifying group, also advancing to the final. Ivanna Oleksiuk will compete in the 400m final as well, having also cleared qualifying in second place.
- In the 10m air pistol competition, Illia Lashch and Yuliia Isachenko won silver in a bout against Team Spain. The Ukrainians narrowly lost the final, 10:12.
Hungary, Spain, Turkey, and Estonia each won one gold medal on the first competition day of EYOF 2025. Ukraine, Slovenia, France, and Serbia each claimed silver. Greece, Austria, Italy, and the Belarusian NOC each took home bronze.
