2025 Junior World Weightlifting Championships: How the Ukrainians Performed

The team won ten medals, three of them gold.

The 2025 Junior World Weightlifting Championships, held April 30 – May 5 in Lima, Peru, have wrapped up. 531 athletes from 77 countries took part in the world championship. Ukraine was represented by nine athletes.

During the junior world championship, medals were awarded both in the so-called 'small' categories — separately for the snatch and clean and jerk — and the 'large' category, for the best combined total. The national team won ten medals in total.

How the 2025 Junior World Weightlifting Championships Went for Ukraine's Representatives

  • In the combined event, Ukrainian weightlifters won four 'large' medals. Gold in the under-17, under-81kg category, for instance, was brought by Serhii Kotelevskyi, with a result of 142kg in the snatch and 172kg in the clean and jerk (314kg combined total).
  • Also among the U17 athletes, Volodymyr Chmykh won bronze with a combined total of 323kg, and Kateryna Malashchuk with 150kg.
  • In the under-20 category, Ukraine won one 'large bronze' — claimed by Andrii Borovskyi in the under-109kg weight category, with a result of 165kg in the snatch and 201kg in the clean and jerk.
  • Also at the 2025 Junior World Weightlifting Championships, Hanna Kalashnyk won a 'small' medal for the clean and jerk. Chmykh finished second in the same event, and Borovskyi third. In the snatch, Kateryna Malashchuk won bronze.

'Small' Medals

  • Gold — Serhii Kotelevskyi (U17, under 81kg, clean and jerk and snatch)
  • Silver — Volodymyr Chmykh (U17, over 102kg, clean and jerk), Hanna Kalashnyk (U20, over 87kg, clean and jerk),
  • Bronze — Andrii Borovskyi (U20, under 109kg), Kateryna Malashchuk (U17, under 45kg, snatch)

The European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships will take place September 4-12, 2025, in the Albanian capital, Tirana.
