Oleh Doroshchuk Brings Ukraine Its First 'Gold' at the European Athletics Indoor Championships: Day Three Recap
Oleh Doroshchuk is the men's high jump champion.
On the third competition day of the European Athletics Indoor Championships, held in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, Ukraine was represented by two athletes — Oleh Doroshchuk and Dmytro Nikitin. Both Ukrainians competed in the high jump final.
Doroshchuk set a new personal best and won 'gold' at the continental championship, while Nikitin finished fifth for the first time in his career.
How the Third Competition Day of the 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships Went for Team Ukraine
- At the first height, 2.22 meters, three of the eight finalists were eliminated at once — both Ukrainians continued on. The national team's representatives also cleared 2.26 meters on their first attempt.
- Nikitin, though, couldn't clear the 2.29-meter bar — the Ukrainian finished his event in fifth place.
- Every one of Doroshchuk's jumps in the final, though, succeeded on the first attempt. The Ukrainian became the only athlete to clear the 2.32 bar, becoming Ukraine's first 'gold' medalist at the 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships.
- Doroshchuk didn't stop there: he moved the bar up further, to 2.34m, and clearing it on his first attempt as well, set a new personal best and a new world-leading result for the season.

On the final day of the 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships, March 9, Ukraine will be represented by four athletes, in the pentathlon, shot put, high jump, and 60m sprint. Notably, 2024 Olympic champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh will take the field, competing in the women's high jump final at 18:05 Kyiv time.
