The Most Medals Yet: A Recap of EYOF 2025's Second-to-Last Day for the Ukrainians
The national team won 11 medals on the festival's fifth competition day.
Team Ukraine added 11 more medals to its haul at the 2025 summer European Youth Olympic Festival — the most of any day at the championship. That's two gold, four silver, and five bronze medals.
As a result, the national team held onto a spot in the top 10 of the overall medal table for the Skopje games heading into the final day. Four sports remain with Ukrainian participants — track and field, judo, table tennis, and gymnastics.

How the Fifth Competition Day Went for the Ukrainians at EYOF 2025
Track and Field
- In the hammer throw final, Polina Dzerozhynska brought Ukraine its fourth gold at EYOF 2025. Her result of 71.50 surpassed her best of the season, set at the national under-18 championship.
- The bronze medal finalist in discus throw was Yehor Lapa, bringing the team its second medal of the day. Meanwhile, Melaniia Vakulina improved her personal best in the high jump (1.73m), but didn't make it through qualifying.
- In his long jump group among the boys, Adam Bilokon finished ninth, advancing to the final. In the girls' relay, though, Team Ukraine finished third — not advancing to the final round.
- In the evening session, Yuliia Lapa took part in the girls' triple jump final, finishing eighth. Meanwhile, among the boys in the hammer throw, Ihor Savolainen finished ninth, and Veronika Tkachuk finished fourth in the 5000m race walk.
Taekwondo
- Roman Hodym's first bout against a Swiss opponent ended in a win, 2:0, but in his second bout, the Ukrainian lost to Denmark's Cody Adiedeway (0:2).
- David Hulii beat Latvia's Eduards Cibulis in his first bout (2:1), and his second bout ended in a win for the Ukrainian over Magnus Møller, 2:0. In the quarterfinal, the young man beat Slovakia's Richard Hanusovský, and in the semifinal, Croatia's Filip Krnjaić. In the decisive gold-medal bout, though, the Ukrainian lost to Spain's Ivan Lysenko, bringing Team Ukraine its seventh silver of the festival.
- Among the girls, in her second bout, Alisa Pavlenko beat Germany's Viktoria Ruczyński, then Sara Kraja in the quarterfinal, and Lucia Pezzolla in the semifinal. The fight for gold ended in a win for her opponent, Nina Zecirovic, so Alisa Pavlenko also became a silver medalist in the under-63kg weight category.
- For Pavlenko's teammate, Viktoriia Kuchyna, the second bout ended in a win over Switzerland's Sofia Zivkovic, and the quarterfinal brought a win over Greece's Anastasia Vlachou. In the semifinal bout, the Ukrainian taekwondo athlete won bronze for Ukraine, losing to Croatia's representative, Maja Srhoj.
Swimming
- During the morning session, in the 400m individual medley, Makar Yakhno finished first in his qualifying heat. In the final, the swimmer won gold in the event — his second at EYOF 2025. Makar also brought the team a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle, while Kostiantyn Fediuchuk won silver in the 100m breaststroke.
- Among the girls, Olha Filimonova finished sixth in the 100m backstroke final, and Iryna Prymachok finished in the same position in the 200m individual medley final. Meanwhile, Anastasiia Shkitak and Sofiia Barabash also competed in the 800m freestyle final, but weren't able to contend for medals.
Shooting
- Illia Lashch and Yuliia Isachenko won their second EYOF medal — bronze in the 10m air pistol event, edging out Bulgaria's representatives (21:17) on a hit/miss basis. In the 10m air rifle mixed team event, Artem Mozghovyi and Mariia Sheinina finished eighth in their qualifying round.
Judo
- Judoka Serhii Zhadan beat Cyprus's Grigorios Mirazanashvili in his first bout, then beat Germany's Samuel Bischoff in his second. In the quarterfinal, though, the Ukrainian lost to Hungary's Daniel Csermak, and his repechage bout also ended in a loss, to Latvia's Alexanders Apsalons.
- In her first bout, Kira Bahmet beat Italy's Elisa Palermo, and in her second, Poland's Nikola Zareba. In the quarterfinal, though, the Ukrainian judoka lost to Serbia's Milica Radakovic, and Kira's later repechage bout ended in a loss to Israel's Ronni Rosenfeld.
- For Artur Makarenko, meanwhile, his second bout brought a win over Germany's Maksim Belender. He was later beaten by Sieb Griede, but after advancing through his repechage bouts, Artur Makarenko won the bronze medal bout against Serbia's Nemanja Simic.
Other Ukrainian Achievements on the Fifth Competition Day
- Gymnast Tymofii Kyrychenko won silver in the individual rings final with a score of 12.700, losing only to Great Britain's Uzair Chowdhury.
- In the 3x3 basketball quarterfinal among the boys, Team Ukraine lost to France, 14:19.
- Diana Kolennikova won her quarterfinal match in the individual table tennis tournament against Portugal's Julia Leal (4:2). The semifinal will take place on the final competition day.

Who Has Already Won Medals for Ukraine at EYOF 2025
- On the first competition day, Illia Lashch and Yuliia Isachenko won their debut medal — silver in the 10m air pistol event.
- On the second day, the Ukrainians added two swimming medals to their haul: Kostiantyn Fediuchuk, in the 200m backstroke final, won silver, and Makar Yakhno brought Ukraine its first gold, in the 1500m freestyle.
- On the third competition day, Ukraine won three medals: Vitalii Tarasiuk won the team's first athletics medal — bronze. Among the judokas, Illia Nazarenko earned a medal of the same kind, while Khazar Heidarov brought Ukraine its second gold at EYOF 2025.
- On the fourth day, the medal haul grew by two more from the judokas: gold went to Ilaria Tsurkan, and silver went to Mykhailo Solianyk.
