PUBG on Netflix: What We Know about the Upcoming Series

What We Know about the Adaptation.

Streaming platform Netflix has announced the development of a series based on the video game PUBG: Battlegrounds. The creative lead and director of the project is Donald Glover, who also takes on the leading role.

Read on for details about the upcoming adaptation and its creative team.

The Creation Story of PUBG

The video game PUBG: Battlegrounds was released in 2017. The concept of the project was shaped by the influence of the 2000 Japanese film “Battle Royale”. In the game's premise, around a hundred participants parachuted onto a limited map, where they searched for weapons, equipment and resources, competing against one another for the right to be the last ones standing.

The game set seven Guinness World Records and became the fifth best-selling game in history. The key feature of the source material lay in the absence of a traditional storyline and fixed characters — the entire gameplay was based on improvisation and the competitive excitement of the players themselves.

The Project Team

The show's development is being carried out in partnership with the South Korean company Krafton, which developed the game. The start of work on the series was announced at the end of October 2026.

Donald Glover works on the script and production of the series together with his brother Stephen. Previously, this creative duo won Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for their work on the series Atlanta.

The adaptation's producing team also includes Michael Schaefer, Fam Udeorji and representatives of Krafton's LV3H entertainment division, Chang Tae-seok and Lee Soo-jin.

Game Adaptations and the Current Production Status of the Series

The announced project will add to Netflix's lineup of game adaptations. The streaming service is currently developing game series based on Assassin's Creed and Gears of War, animated shows based on the games Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering and Clash of Clans, as well as a competitive show based on the game Overcooked.

Meanwhile, the series based on PUBG remains in the early stages of development, so the full cast, filming schedule and premiere date will be announced later. Whether the creators manage to turn the video game into a full-fledged television drama will become clear once the first official details and promotional materials appear.
