Singer NICOLE on the Track "Weather", Working with Emotional States and the Artist's "Positive" Mask
An exclusive comment from NICOLE.
12-year-old Ukrainian singer NICOLE has released her track “Weather”. The song appeared on streaming platforms on September 25th.
According to the artist, this is a track about different emotions that can change throughout the day. In her exclusive comment to DeTalks, NICOLE talks about how she is learning to accept different moods, and why you shouldn't change yourself for someone else's approval.
Your track “Weather” is about the fact that your mood can change — and that's normal. How do you yourself accept different emotional states?
“I always used to try to be 'positive'. But over time I realized that everyone goes through different states, and that's normal. Of course, it's great to be cheerful, but occasionally it's okay to be angry, or sad, or simply not in the mood.”
"I am very glad that my fans accept me in all my different states", says the singer.
And why do you think it's challenging to be yourself?
“Sometimes it seems that if I am my true self, someone may not like me, or people won't love me. But now on social media I am as much myself as I am in real life, and I think that's really great because my audience supports me. Thanks to that, it's even easier for me to be myself.”
Was there a period when you tried to fit a certain image?
“Yes, I went through that. I worried that no one would like me if I wasn't perfect, and I thought that people only love those who always look and behave the right way.
But I was wrong: when I started being more of myself, people began to understand me better, and my fans began to support me even more. That's when I realized that you don't need to create some kind of image for others to like you.”
Being yourself sometimes means being “inconvenient”: saying “no” or doing things differently from what others expect. Where is the line for you between the freedom and the need to consider others?
“There are situations when you need to compromise a little or do something not exactly the way you want. And that's normal too because the result may even be better.
For example, in the music video for my new track 'Weather' there was a moment I didn't really like at first. But my team said it was fine, so we kept it, and it turned out really great! Then I realized that I can be wrong sometimes — and that's normal too.”
Social media often creates the feeling that everyone around is confident, successful, and happy with life. How do you separate your real self from the image your audience sees?
“I don't take this pressure well. I believe social media exists for sharing moments from your life, making funny content, and lifting people's spirits — not for constantly showing a perfect version of yourself.
I have funny videos, but there are also ones where I can say that I'm feeling a bit sick or simply not in the mood. And I think that's great too because that's how you show people your real self.”
"I don't have the 'one person on social media, another in real life' image at all. From my audience I hide only my pimples and release dates."
If listeners could take away just one thought after “Weather”, what would you want to tell them?
"Being yourself is always better than trying to be like someone else."
