Tetiana Tarasiuk Shares Second Place in the Junior IBU Cup Women's Sprint With a French Athlete
The Ukrainian and her French counterpart trailed the sprint leader by 27.5 seconds.
The women's sprint at the first stage of the 2025/26 Junior IBU Cup took place in Goms, Switzerland. Ukraine's Tetiana Tarasiuk finished second, and five more Ukrainian representatives finished in the scoring zone.
The season's opening race was the men's sprint, in which Taras Tarasiuk made the flower ceremony.
In the girls' sprint, Ukraine was represented by Valeriia Sheihas, Kseniia Prykhodko, Polina Putsko, Alina Khmil, Viktoriia Khvostenko, Tetiana Tarasiuk, and Iryna Shevchenko.
How the 2025/26 Season's Girls' Sprint Went for Team Ukraine's Junior Biathlon Squad
- Valeriia Sheihas was the first Ukrainian to start. The biathlete shot both stages clean, but trailed the sprint leader by 46.8 seconds. Sheihas finished eighth.
- Kseniia Prykhodko started 13th on the course. The Ukrainian posted the fastest time to the 1.4 km mark and missed once at the prone stage, but did not finish for unspecified reasons.
- Polina Putsko missed twice at her first approach to the firing range and once at standing. The Ukrainian trailed the leader by 1:35.9 minutes, finishing 17th. Alina Khmil, meanwhile, missing four times, finished the sprint 31st.
- Iryna Shevchenko finished 21st, with one miss at the prone stage, trailing the leader by 1:43.8 minutes. Viktoriia Khvostenko, with the same shooting result, finished 14th.
- The best result among the Ukrainian women came from Tetiana Tarasiuk — the biathlete shot the prone stage clean and missed once at standing. Trailing the race's best time by 27.5 seconds, the Ukrainian finished second, sharing the position with Maela Correia.
The sprint's winner was Lou-Anne Dupont Baillet-Bas, who covered the course in 21:10.3 minutes with one miss.
