Ukraine Adds Three More EYOF 2025 Medals: How the Third Competition Day Went

On the third day, Team Ukraine won one gold and two bronzes.

Team Ukraine added three more medals to its haul at the 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival. It happened following the third day of the EYOF 2025 multi-sport games, running in North Macedonia and Croatia July 20-26. Ukraine is competing in 12 sports.

On the first competition day, the Ukrainians won their debut medal — silver in the 10m air pistol event, claimed by Illia Lashch and Yuliia Isachenko. On the second day, Team Ukraine won two swimming medals: Kostiantyn Fediuchuk, in the 200m backstroke final, brought the team a second silver at EYOF 2025, while Makar Yakhno won Ukraine's first gold, in the 1500m freestyle.

How Team Ukraine's Third Competition Day at EYOF 2025 Went

  • The morning track and field session opened with the boys' 5000m race walk. Vitalii Tarasiuk finished in 20:55.71 and won bronze for Ukraine, despite running in fourth place for most of the distance.
  • In the high jump final, Ivan Donii cleared three heights on his first attempt: 1.85m, 1.90m, and 1.95m. His personal best of 2.01m, set in qualifying, eluded him on his second attempt — Ivan stopped at 1.98m and finished ninth.
  • In the girls' triple jump, Valeriia Lapa finished fourth in her qualifying pool and will advance to the final. Ukrainians didn't make it through qualifying in the 200m, though: Khrystyna Makarova finished fourth, and Mykhailo Dzhelep finished sixth among the boys in the same event.
  • In the mountain bike final, Anna Samborska finished 20th (trailing by 51:43 + 1 lap), and Vadym Maidannyk finished 25th (58:16 + 1 lap).
  • The second group-stage table tennis match for Vadym Soltys against Gorkem Okal ended in a loss, 2:3, and the decisive match to advance from the group ended 0:3 against Belarusian NOC representative Nazar Matsko. Among the girls, in the third round of the group stage, Diana Kolennikova beat Moldova's Inna Leshchynska, 3:1. The athlete will play in the playoffs.
  • During the morning swimming session, in the 200m freestyle, Sofiia Barabash finished seventh. Meanwhile, in her heat of the same event, Anastasiia Shkitak finished sixth, making the top 16.
  • Olha Filimonova took first place in the 100m butterfly qualifying, advancing to the semifinal, while in the 200m freestyle semifinal, Anastasiia Shkitak finished seventh.
  • Among the boys, in the 100m freestyle final, Ivan Riaduiev finished fourth. In the 100m butterfly semifinal, meanwhile, Olha Filimonova finished sixth.
  • In the first 10m air pistol qualifying round, Illia Lashch finished second, but in the second qualifying round, he finished ninth and didn't advance to the final. Among the girls, in the first qualifying round, Yuliia Isachenko finished fourth, and in the second, she finished third. Having advanced to the bronze medal match, Yuliia lost to the Czech Republic's Aneta Marecková, 8:10.
  • Badminton player Varvara Poperezhai won her opening playoff match in the individual tournament against Teodora Latas, 2:0, but lost in the quarterfinal to Great Britain's Ishaasrya Mekali, 1:2.
  • Judoka Yelyzaveta Yemelianova beat Romania's Teodora Teisanu, but lost in the next round to Aysun Mamadova. Daria Karpus also couldn't hold her advantage, losing to Serbia's Marija Rasic.
  • Illia Nazarenko beat Moldova's Ivan Rotasniuc in the second round, but lost in the quarterfinal to the Netherlands' Tijn Zwiers. Illia Nazarenko's repechage bout against Marwan Mansour ended in a win, as did his semifinal, where the Ukrainian defeated Andrejs Paberzs. In the bronze medal bout, Illia beat Norway's Nino Gubberud, winning Ukraine's second bronze of the day.
  • For Khazar Heidarov, the second round brought a win over Wojciech Michalak, after which the Ukrainian beat Switzerland's Timeo Cori in the quarterfinal. His semifinal bout against Ferenc Fedora also ended in a win for the Ukrainian. The final proved the most decisive — Khazar won Ukraine's second gold, facing off against Azerbaijan's Zeyid Alaskarov.
  • In taekwondo qualifying, Ukraine's Zlatoslava Volosenko lost to Turkey's Duru Kokos in the girls' under-49kg category.
  • The girls' gymnastics all-around competition began with the uneven bars. On this apparatus, Kristina Hrudetska finished 12th, Bohdana Kovalova finished 16th, and Anastasiia Lev finished 18th.
  • On the balance beam, Anastasiia Lev finished 20th, Bohdana Kovalova finished sixth, and Kristina Hrudetska finished 43rd. In the floor exercise, Anastasiia Lev finished 17th, Bohdana Kovalova finished 22nd, and Kristina Hrudetska finished 56th.
  • The day's final apparatus was the vault, opened by Kristina Hrudetska, who finished 78th, followed by Bohdana Kovalova in 64th, and Anastasiia Lev in 17th. Overall, Team Ukraine scored 97.650 in the final, finishing eighth in the team standings.
  • At the start of the 3x3 basketball group stage, the 'yellow-and-blues' narrowly beat Great Britain, 15:14. In their second match, though, the Ukrainians lost to France, 9:17.

Over three competition days, Ukraine's haul stands at six medals: two gold, two silver, and two bronze. Italy leads the medal table.
