Ukraine Wins Its First Medals at the Junior European Diving Championships: Standings
The national team has already claimed a full set of medals.
Team Ukraine's diving squad won its first three medals at the 2025 Junior European Championships, running June 23-29 at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in Athens, the venue for the 2004 Summer Games.
After finishing fourth in the mixed team event at the start of the tournament, individual men's and women's competition began on the second day of the championship, on the 1m and 3m springboards respectively. Medals were awarded in Category B.
Unlike the adult competition, medals at the junior European championship are awarded across two categories — A for athletes aged 16-18, and B for ages 14-15.
How the Ukrainians Performed on Day 2 of the 2025 Junior European Diving Championships
- Dmytro Stepanov had a shot at Ukraine's first medal of the 2025 European Championships — he won qualifying in the individual 1m springboard, Category B. In the final, though, Dmytro's third dive scored only 22.50 points, dropping him from second to fifth place, where he finished.
- The second final involving Ukraine was the girls' 3m springboard. Ukraine's sole representative, Yelyzaveta Diadiuk, scored a total of 328.15 points, trailing leader Elly Kieput of Germany by 27.90 points and winning silver at the continental championship.
- Nazarii Kononenko and Valerii Malieiev triumphed on the second competition day, winning the 10m synchronized platform event. Up until the final dive, the 'yellow-and-blue' duo hadn't risen above second place, but after scoring 72 points on their final dive with a 3.2 degree of difficulty, they overtook the second British pair to win Ukraine's first gold at the continental championship.
- Alisa Meshkova and Sofiia Vystavkina tried to match their teammates' achievement, but lost out to two other duos — a pair of 'neutral' athletes and a German duo — finishing third with a total of 252.18 points.
As a result, Ukraine won three medals at once on the second competition day of the 2025 Junior European Diving Championships. Despite this, the national team currently sits just third in the tournament's overall medal table.
