Yaroslava Mahuchikh Is European Indoor High Jump Champion: Day Four Results
The Ukrainian won the continental indoor championship for the third time in a row.
23-year-old Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh became European high jump indoor champion for the third time in a row. This came as a result of the competition in the Netherlands, in Apeldoorn, where the winter athletics season's biggest continental event — the 2025 'indoor' European Championships — wrapped up on March 9.
On the final competition day of this year's Euro, Ukraine was represented by four athletes — in the pentathlon, shot put, high jump, and 60m sprint.
The DeTalks team has summed up all the Ukrainians' performances from March 9. Read about the 'yellow-and-blues'' earlier results here.
How the Final Competition Day of the 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships Went for Ukraine
- The main event of the championship's closing day was Yaroslava Mahuchikh's performance in the high jump final. As a result, the athlete defended her European indoor title for the second time in a row. Yaroslava cleared four heights — 1.92, 1.94, 1.96, and 1.99 meters — which proved enough for the win.
Despite the athlete's wanting to set a European record too, as she later told Suspilne Sport, the Ukrainian decided not to jump after 1.99m. On her second attempt at 1.99 meters, Mahuchikh felt heel pain, so she decided to end the competition there in order to arrive at the World Championship in good health.
- In the pentathlon, the national team was represented by Yuliia Loban — the athlete finished second in the shot put with a result of 14.98m, but ended up 11th overall with a combined score of 4,091 points.
- In the individual shot put competition, Artem Levchenko advanced to the final with a personal best — posting a result of 20.25m on his second attempt. The athlete finished sixth after the semifinal, but in the final couldn't push the shot past 20 meters, ultimately finishing seventh.
- Diana Honcharenko, meanwhile, didn't clear qualifying in the 60m sprint. This indoor Euro marked the athlete's career debut, and according to the track and field athlete, Diana felt good, so she doesn't know what caused the result.
