The Ukrainian won the country's only medal at the 2025 World Indoor Championships.

Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh became a bronze medalist at the World Indoor Championships. The competition, held March 21-23 in Nanjing, marked the last major event of the winter season, following the ‘indoor’ Euro 2025.

Ukraine was represented by seven athletes overall at the competition in China. The roster included four high jumpers — Yaroslava Mahuchikh, Kateryna Tabashnyk, Oleh Doroshchuk, and Dmytro Nikitin, 60m hurdles sprinter Anna Plotitsyna, triple jumper Mariia Sinei, and Yuliia Loban, who competed in the pentathlon.

How Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Other Ukrainians Performed at the 2025 World Indoor Championships

  • The high jump finals were the main event of the world championship for Ukraine — two reigning 2025 Indoor European champions competed for medals at once: Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Oleh Doroshchuk.
  • Yaroslava Mahuchikh brought the only medal to the national team — bronze in the women's event. The Ukrainian cleared her final height at 1.95 meters, while her main rivals, Australia's Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson, cleared 1.97 meters.
  • This marked the first time since February 2023 that Mahuchikh failed to clear 1.95 meters, and also snapped her streak of 10 consecutive wins at international competitions. Another Ukrainian, Kateryna Tabashnyk, finished ninth with a result of 1.89m.
  • Oleh Doroshchuk finished just short in his final — losing third place to Jamaica's Raymond Richards on countback at a height of 2.28, while Dmytro Nikitin failed to clear his second height, 2.20 meters.

  • On the world championship's opening day, Ukraine's Yuliia Loban competed in the pentathlon. The athlete's best result came in the shot put — sixth place. Overall, Yuliia scored 4,124 points, finishing 12th, second-to-last.
  • In the triple jump, Ukraine was represented by 27-year-old Mariia Sinei. This year's world championship marked the athlete's debut, and her best result was a jump of 13.58m. Mariia finished tenth.
  • Sprinter Anna Plotitsyna, meanwhile, competing in the 60m hurdles, fell just short of the semifinal — posting a time of 8.26 seconds.

As a result, Ukraine won just one medal at this year's World Indoor Championships — bronze in the women's high jump. Last year, too, the national team finished with a single medal — Yaroslava Mahuchikh's silver.

The Americans topped this year's medal table — the US finished with 10 medals, including three gold.

2025 World Indoor Championships Overall Medal Table

  1. United States — 10 medals (3 gold + 3 silver + 4 bronze)
  2. Great Britain — 2 (2+0+0)
  3. Australia — 5 (1+2+2)

  1. Ukraine — 1 (0+0+1)
