Team Ukraine U18 Loses in the Second Round of the 2025 World Hockey Championship: What the Result Affects

Ukraine's junior national hockey team lost to Denmark in the second round of the U18 World Championship, Division IA. This came as a result of the match, held April 21 in Székesfehérvár, Hungary.
In the first match of the 2025 World Championship, played the day before, Oleksandr Bobkin's squad convincingly beat Team Hungary, the group's host nation, 7:1. Denmark also won its opening match — against Austria, 5:3.

- It took the Danes just a hundred seconds to open the scoring — William Bundgaard found the net. But less than a minute later, Ukrainian defenseman Mykola Kosariev equalized.
- In the eleventh minute of the first period, Denmark went back ahead — Emil Jakobsen struck against the Ukrainian goal, and six minutes later, forward Linus Rørth doubled the lead. The first 20 minutes ended 1:3 in Denmark's favor.
- In the second period, Oleksandr Bobkin's squad had more chances, but couldn't convert any of them. Team Denmark extended its lead to 1:4, thanks to forward William Bundgaard.
- Bundgaard also scored in the third period, finding the empty Ukrainian net for the final goal. As a result, Team Denmark won 1:5 and became the provisional leader of Division IA.
After the first round, Matvii Shevtsov led the tournament's scoring race under the goals-plus-assists system, but after the second round, the Ukrainian fell behind three Danes and now shares fourth place with Linus Rørth.
