Ukraine's U21 national football team won its first match at Euro 2025. It happened in a match against Finland's national team, held June 15 in Kosice, Slovakia.
In their opening match, the 'yellow-and-blues' lost: conceding the decisive goal to Denmark in the 87th minute (2:3).
How Ukraine's U21 Team Played Against Finland
- The Ukrainians seized the initiative from the start of the match: pressing actively and creating several dangerous moments. Forward Vladyslav Vanat, for instance, threatened the goal twice, midfielder Volodymyr Brazhko later hit the crossbar from a free kick, and in the 28th minute, Vanat converted a rebound after a save by goalkeeper Lukas Bergstrom — 0:1.
- In the second half, the Finns became more active, but the Ukrainians defended successfully. Midfielder Maksym Brahuru later had a chance to double the lead, but Finland's goalkeeper saved the shot again.
- In the 49th minute, Bergstrom made a mistake coming off his line after a cross from Vladyslav Veleten, which Brahuru capitalized on, finding the empty net. The goal moved the Ukrainian up to provisionally third place in the tournament's scoring standings.
- Near the end of the match, Finland increased the pressure, creating several chances against Ruslan Neshcheret's goal, but the 'yellow-and-blues' held their lead.
- In the second minute of stoppage time, though, Volodymyr Brazhko received a second yellow card and will miss the next match. As a result, the Ukrainians won their first match at Euro 2025, 2:0.
